DR. K. Sathasivan

Dr. K. Sathasivan hails from Tirunelveli, and studied B.Sc. (Agri) and M.Sc. (Agronomy) from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore. After working for a few years in India and Singapore, he moved to the United States in 1985 and completed Ph.D. at the Louisiana State University in Plant Health and Biochemistry. He has been a Molecular Biosciences faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin for the past 27 years. He and a team of dedicated volunteers founded Austin Tamil Sangam in 1991, and served as the Founder President of ATS. In addition, he served as a Faculty Advisor of Tamil Students Association for many years. As an ATS volunteer, he taught Tamil to adults for 5 years at UT Austin in 1990s. Currently, he is a Trustee in Austin Hindu Temple and Community Center and served in the Board of Directors for 4 years. He is passionate about Tamil literature and education in general.



Saravanabavan Vaitheeswaran (Bavan) was born in Srilanka, brought up in India, worked in Singapore before moving to Austin in 2007. He  works  for General Motors as Senior Manager - Global Telecommunications. Apart from spending time with family, he enjoys travelling and gardening (vegetables & roses). Bavan's family consists of his wife Sharmila and sons Varun and Devesh.



Arulnambi Raju was born & brought up in Tamilnadu, India. He has been living in Austin for more than 7 years and working for DELL as a software Engineer. Apart from his work, his pastimes are reading Books & following various sports. At his young age, he was introduced to learn many ancient tamil writers literary works by his family. He read many Tamil literature, novels and short stories. He also has more heed on Tamil Linguistic. During his college days, he founded Tamil association along with his friends to promote tamil lanuguge and the richness of various tamil literatures.



Vaishnavi Ramanujam is a resident of Chennai. She moved from the bay area to Austin and has been a resident of Austin for over 13 years. She is a HR professional and does volunteer work with several nonprofit organizations. She spends several hours every week working with hospice patients and children. She loves to read Tamil books, dance, and go on long walks with her dog. She lives with her husband Prasanna, 11 year old son Advaith.



Vijay Balasundaram was born and brought up in Tamilnadu, India and has masters degree in Physics.  He moved to Austin back in 2001 and is working on his consulting business.  Not only he enjoys watching movies but also passionate about it and has been screening tamil movies in Austin city.  He is tirelessly working towards bringing quality cultural events to Austin city and tamil community.  He is a volunteer Tamil teacher with Austin Tamil School as well.
